Holiday in North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
A short walk down the valley from the self-catering holiday accommodation of Lee Chapel and School House enables you to
explore one of the most beautiful villages along the North Devon coastline.
Lee Bay is a totally unspoilt village amidst North Devon’s rolling hills.
The village itself is a hidden gem with its own traditional pub; The Grampus Inn
serving real ales, fine food and cream teas.
The village also offers a
gallery/craft shop nearby.
A short stroll takes you Lee Bay’s small-secluded cove with numerous rock pools
and is sandy at low tide for safe bathing.
Close access to the coastal path here gives miles of dramatic scenery and
breathtaking sea views. Around the headland you will find the popular villages
of Mortehoe, Woolacombe and Croyde. Woolacombe has been acknowledged as one of
the top ten beaches in the world, proudly providing three miles of
blue flag sandy beach, offering everything from relaxing sunbathing to active
surfing, kite flying and paragliding.
The beach waters along this stretch of the North Devon coastline are fed by the
Atlantic Gulf Stream, ensuring a mild climate for the area.
Wether you are looking for an active break or quiet relaxation, Lee Chapel and
School House are a perfect all round base for a family holiday in Devon, friendly get
together or a romantic escape.
Autumn/ Winter Breaks
North Devon’s unique regional weather allows our summer to last a little
longer than most. This has a knock on affect with our Autumn arriving late
thanks to the warming affects of the Gulf Stream. Many visitors are taking
advantage of this to enjoy the area at its best out side of the main seasons
when the roads are quieter and the pace of life a little slower.
The Council for the protection of rural England has designated North Devon as an
area of tranquillity, one of only three in the UK and the only one in the South
West.
Lee Chapel and School House have full central heating, log burners, and are
available for short breaks which can be three, four or five nights and can start
on any day of the week. See tariff for details.
Contrasts a poem by Christine
Along the northern coast of Devon
Where the land meets with the sea
Sheltered by high hills and woodlands
There’s a little place called Lee.
Off the main road down winding lanes
Right down to the edge of land
Where the waves lap on the beach
Making rocks pools and glistening sand
Narrow path of wild flowers
Hedgerows growing bright and bold
Pretty cottages with lovely gardens
Are memories I will always hold.
Way up high upon the cliff tops
Coastal paths look out to sea
Sheep and lambs are quietly grazing
It seems there’s no one there but me.
Over stiles that lead to woodlands
Where the tree grow green and tall
Sunshine drifts between great branches
And silver streams make waterfalls
Yet…far away our city bustles
Traffic rushing everywhere
Massive lorries fill the roadways
Pumping fumes into the air.
In foreign lands mad war is raging
People dying needlessly
I’m so glad I’ve been to Devon
To quiet, peaceful, pretty Lee
